Love at second sight

The Story behind The Friends With Whatever-Fits Experiment

It was a cold winter’s day in 2019 when we met. We saw each other occasionally through our mutual friend, in Spring, Summer, during a night out with too much alcohol. But nothing happened and another year passed by with barely any contact. Although we immediately knew there was no romantic interest in each other, we didn’t really become friends straight away and only communicate with each other online, we finally found each other after 2 years. Here we are organizing events to let strangers meet each other in a fun, innovative way online.

Seeing the dating apps available, the desire to find a mate in our fertile millennial years is high and the figures tell us that we’ve become more lonely throughout the years. Living the fast life, we barely have time to look past the first impression and always wonder if there isn’t a better match out there for us. Not having a common space anymore now, like a university or office, how do you make new (romantic) friends? How diverse is your A.I. generated selection? And do you really feel that you’re able to let your true personality shine via ten lines of chat?

Relationships are not only bound by romantic ones and they don’t always start with fireworks. We believe that by putting pressure on finding “the one”, you might miss out on finding other beautiful relationships, like friendships, and take away the time for them to grow. As outgoing persons ourselves, we also struggle with not spontaneously meeting new people and hearing fresh perspectives on life. The main goal of both our companies is to create settings for rare encounters between interesting people. Not being able to host physical shows or dinners, we took our knowledge online.

Nobody wants another boring conference call, where one is yapping about their loud neighbours while the rest is either scrolling through their social media, texting or watching videos. During our Friends With Whatever-Fits we have come up with an interactive way to match you with “dates” and showing a different side of you. We give you time to really get to know each other, while you get first of a kind entertainment. And instead of finding true love, you’re welcome to find whatever that suits you: a Mr(s) Right Now, a FWB, someone to share your love for alpacas with or just a friend. If 1,5 hours of joy together wasn’t enough and you want to give love at second sight a chance IRL, we give you free wine or coffee for your date!

Our next edition, on Thursday 25th of March 20:00 - 21:30 (Zoom), is for single, English speaking, straight boys and girls living in Amsterdam. Buy your 10 euro tickets via www.friendsexperiment.eventbrite.nl. We, Wing (3310 - School for Millennials - www.3310.school) and Casper (Vuurwerk Filosofie - www.vuurwerkfilosofie.nl), hope to see you soon!
